The Margin: Veterans Day: Are banks open? Does USPS deliver mail?

It’s time to remember our veterans.

Veterans Day is on Friday, Nov. 11. The holiday dates back to 1919, when President Woodrow Wilson, referring to it then as Armistice Day, said it “will be filled with solemn pride in the heroism of those who died in the country’s service.” The original concept, according to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, was “for a day observed with parades and public meetings and a brief suspension of business beginning at 11:00 a.m.”

Jump ahead to 2022, and many businesses and offices are closed on Veterans Day, although the New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq are open. Here are some additional details about what’s open or closed for the holiday.
