: ‘That voice was not mine’: Listen to a U.S. senator’s AI deep fake at a Capitol Hill hearing

Artificial intelligence had a moment on Capitol Hill this week, in the form of a senator’s opening statement at a hearing.

Except that it wasn’t the senator who spoke. As seen in the video below, Sen. Richard Blumenthal demonstrated an AI deep fake — with his purported words written by ChatGPT and his voice cloned.

The Connecticut Democrat and other lawmakers questioned OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and other witnesses during a hearing titled “Oversight of AI: Rules for Artificial Intelligence.” Blumenthal later told MSNBC that there had been an “eerie, even creepy” atmosphere in the hearing room.
