Intro to Flying Blue Promo Rewards

One of the best perks of being a member of Flying Blue, the loyalty program for Air France and KLM, is its regularly published list of Flying Blue Promo Rewards. These Promo Rewards can slash as much as 50% off the regular award ticket prices. They often include both business and economy class and cover various regions, including flights to and from the U.S. and around Europe.

The latest round of Flying Blue Promo Rewards must be booked by the end of the month for travel between now and the end of June 2022. This month’s awards include only economy class flights within Europe or between Europe and a few cities in the U.S., Canada and Mexico. Still, it is possible to book a cheap positioning flight to get you to one of these gateways, if you want to save some miles on your next award trip.

At the moment, Promo Rewards flight tickets come with the ability to make a free change given the COVID-19 situation, but this is not normal practice. While tickets can’t be canceled, the dates can be adjusted for any flight leaving before June 30, 2022, as long as the request is made before the flight’s departure time.

Example Flying Blue Promo Rewards

December’s Promo Rewards included short- and medium-haul flights discounted by 25%. These flights were between European city pairs and must have been booked before the end of the month. You could have planned your travel anytime between now and the end of May 2022, which was ideal if you were already within Europe and looking for a last-minute getaway.

Example discounts included flights for 4,500 miles each way from Amsterdam to London or Geneva, or Paris to Frankfurt or Marseille. Long-haul, economy class flights were also discounted by 25%, which presented some good deals between Canada and Europe, including Vancouver to Paris for 16,125 miles each way.

Now, with January’s Promo Rewards, you can still find 25% discounts on short-, medium- and long-haul award flights. Discounts include similar 4,500 miles one-way trips from Amsterdam and Paris to select European cities, with prices going up to 8,250 miles one-way between Amsterdam and Lisbon. You can book a ticket between Chicago and Paris for 16,125 miles each way, or fly from Mexico City to Europe for 18,750 miles.

The above discounts are the starting prices, which means that not every date will offer the same discount price. The reward prices also do not include taxes and fees, but these are typically not exorbitant.

Why Promo Rewards can be helpful

One of the user-friendly benefits of Flying Blue Promo Rewards is that you can book them as one-way tickets. This means it could be easier for you to travel from one city and come back to another, which can be helpful when planning award travel or looking for cheap fares.

This is particularly helpful if you need to reposition from another cheap fare or award ticket you found to Europe. If one of these Promo Rewards syncs up with another affordable ticket, perhaps it will help you complete the puzzle of an award trip you’re trying to plan.

You can also consider flying a low-cost airline to get to one of the Promo Rewards departure points, if that can help you travel more affordably within Europe.

Flying Blue miles

This means that even if you don’t fly Air France or KLM often, you can still boost your balance if you have other rewards points in your travel wallet.

If you choose to transfer Marriott points to Flying Blue, you’ll receive an added bonus. Typically, its points transfer to Flying Blue at a 3:1 ratio, which means for every 3,000 Bonvoy points, you’ll get 1,000 Flying Blue miles. But for every 60,000 points you transfer, Marriott Bonvoy will add a 5,000-mile bonus.

Final thoughts on Flying Blue Promo Rewards

The regularly updated selection of eligible routes for Flying Blue Promo Rewards can help you save miles when flying on Air France or KLM. While the reduced award tickets are available only within a set promotional period, on limited dates and to certain destinations, they can certainly be useful if you plan to visit one of these cities.

This discount program provides a great way to save miles on an upcoming award trip, especially since you can transfer points from another program to fill your Flying Blue balance.
