The Biden administration on Tuesday rolled out new efforts focused on artificial intelligence, releasing an updated federal roadmap for AI research and development along with an Education Department report on risks and opportunities that come from the fast-changing field.
The updated roadmap, called the “National AI R&D Strategic Plan,” comes from the White House’s Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) and follows plans issued in 2016 and 2019.
The Education Department’s report, titled “Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the Future of Teaching and Learning: Insights and Recommendations,” recognizes the technology can “enable new forms of interaction between educators and students, help educators address variability in learning, increase feedback loops and support educators,” the White House said in a statement. But it also ” underscores the risks associated with AI — including algorithmic bias — and the importance of trust, safety and appropriate guardrails.”

In addition, the OSTP is issuing a request for public input on AI issues, with individuals and organizations invited to submit comments by July 7.
The White House also said it’s due to host a listening session with workers on Tuesday to “hear firsthand experiences with employers’ use of automated technologies
