Apple Inc. debuted a new, larger version of its MacBook Air laptop and completed the company’s transition to custom chips in its personal-computer lineup as the tech giant kicked off its annual WWDC event Monday.
The 15-inch MacBook Air, with a price tag starting at $1,299, features Apple’s
AAPL,
custom M2 chip. Apple says that makes the computer faster than the quickest Intel Corp.
INTC,
-based MacBook Air. It also gets 18 hours of battery life, is 11.5-millimeters thin and weighs just over 3 pounds. The MacBook Air comes with Apple’s Liquid Retina display, six speakers and a fanless design.

Apple also offers 13.3-inch and 13.6-inch MacBook Airs. THE 15-inch version is available for preorder immediately, with availability starting next week. Apple is also lowering the price of the regular MacBook Air, featuring the older M1 chip, to $999, while it will sell the older M2 MacBook Air for $1,099.
The company also introduced new Mac Studio and Mac Pro high-end computers with custom chips, the last form factors that had not received Apple’s custom silicon.
This “completes the transition to Apple Silicon,” John Ternus, Apple’s senior vice president hardware engineering, said at the event, referring to Apple’s move to infuse its whole laptop lineup with custom chips.
The Mac Studio will start at $1,999, while the Mac Pro will begin at $6,999.
