Nvidia is trying to hold on to its business in China — even as it gets harder to compete with Huawei

As Nvidia Corp. faces increasing challenges in China from U.S. trade restrictions and homegrown chip manufacturers, the Santa Clara, Calif.–based company is looking for ways to keep its competitive edge in the world’s No. 2 economy. 

The chip maker wants to build a facility for research and development in Shanghai, as part of plans to lease new space for existing employees in the country, the Financial Times reported, citing unnamed people described as familiar with the matter. Nvidia

NVDA Chief Executive Jensen Huang reportedly met with Shanghai Mayor Gong Zheng to discuss the expansion in April.
